Department store Macy's on Wednesday said it had settled its proxy fight with an activist group led by Arkhouse Management, and that it would add two new directors to its 15-person board. The reshuffle moves Macy's closer to a deal that would take the 165-year-old department store private. Ric Clark, a former executive at Brookfield, and Rick Markee will join Macy's board effective immediately. Arkhouse first submitted an offer to take the retailer private in 2023. The investment-firm-turned-activist then launched a proxy fight at the company in February, putting up a nine-director slate.

But let's say you're 30 years old and haven't started stashing money away; you may have difficulty getting there. And as a result of this, if you're going to live during a 30 or 40 year retirement. In Edelman's opinion, you're late to the game if you're over 25 and haven't started saving and investing. When people do set money aside, it's often in the wrong places, such as bank savings, money market accounts, and government bonds, Edelman said. All of this might sound complicated for a beginner, but diversification can be achieved through exchange-traded funds (ETFs), Edelman noted.

Republicans are expected to hold the seat easily, and the party’s fragile majority in the chamber is not at stake. The district, which cuts through the Central Valley farm belt including parts of Bakersfield and Fresno, is the most strongly Republican seat in heavily Democratic California. Fong and Boudreaux have advanced to the November election in that contest. The special election only covers the time remaining in McCarthy’s term, running through early next year. But there is an insider-outsider aspect to the race: Fong is McCarthy's handpicked choice and a product of his political operation, while the sheriff is not.

Blum told the court Cornelius had lied about their relationship, which was platonic, he said. The bad news prompted some bond investors to question whether Bayer should sweeten the terms of the deal or outright pull it, one of the sources said. The drug-to-pesticides group priced the investment grade bond on Thursday last week, with the deal closing on Tuesday. Bayer priced bonds with maturities between three to 30 years. It was the 10th largest investment grade bond deal by an industrial company this year and attracted more than $22 billion in orders, according to Informa Global Markets. The events were "not enough to trigger a material adverse change clause in bond documents for investors to ask to be paid back," said CreditSights' Brady.

"We will have to figure out ways to make the usage of our AI chips more efficient," he said, "And we will also try to look for domestic source for these training chips." Lau's comments come as Chinese companies with AI ambitions are scrambling to cope with the United States' ever-expanding AI chip export restrictions to China. But now a growing number of Chinese tech firms are turning to homegrown chipmakers like Huawei Technologies [RIC:RIC:HWT.UL] for AI chip supply. As such, the new chip curbs will not affect the development of Tencent's AI capability in the near term. Edelman also founded Edelman Financial, a large firm of registered investment advisors. The potential of a bitcoin ETF has appeared to help fuel a recent rally in the cryptocurrency. Concerns from advisors Crypto's dramatic rise has largely come without the embrace of the traditional financial system, such as financial advisors and major banks. But not all financial advisors seem ready to embrace crypto just because investing in it is simpler. Client demand Even if advisors are skeptical of crypto, the arrival of bitcoin ETFs is sure to generate more questions from clients.

When Jim Rohrstaff moved to New Zealand in 2014 to help Ric Kayne manage and start his private golf club, Tara Iti, he didn’t know what the future held. Te Arai sits on the same stretch of Pacific coastline as Tara Iti, on New Zealand’s North Island, and is home to two public golf courses. Mr. Rohrstaff and Mr. Kayne wanted to replicate the feeling of 17-mile drive there, about 60 miles north of Auckland. [1/3] Atomo Coffee's 'beanless coffee', which uses superfoods and upcycled ingredients to mimic the molecular structure of coffee, is seen in this handout picture obtained by Reuters on September 29, 2023. "Coffee is causing deforestation at a pretty alarming rate - almost up to ten (New York) Central Parks a day," said Atomo's CEO and co-founder Andy Kleitsch ahead of the firm's beanless coffee launch at the New York Coffee Festival on Friday. Atomo says its initial "proof-of-concept" cold brew beanless coffee caused 93% fewer carbon emissions and used 94% less water than regular coffee. The firm expects to see similar figures for its new hot beanless coffee which is also made using mostly upcycled ingredients like date pips, which tend to be discarded in the commercial production process. However, Atomo says it is in talks with most of the world's major coffee firms about how it might scale up and supply them.

Airbnb host Ric Kenworthy, who manages over 90 properties in Arizona, says Chesky's comments were a long time coming. Chesky's site is a marketplace that connects hosts and travelers, and the CEO is struggling to keep both sides happy. The first phase of the construction of the Northvolt Six factory just outside Montreal will begin this year and it is expected to be operational in 2026. Northvolt will invest $3.2 billion of the total with the local and federal government each contributing $1 billion, Northvolt Co-Founder Paolo Cerruti told Reuters. "We looked at 70 different sites at the beginning of this process," Cerruti said. The $369-billion U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) passed last year has prompted companies including Northvolt to look across the Atlantic, attracted by hefty subsidies and cheaper energy. "This size of investment and project can not happen if you don't have an anchor customer," he said.

The Taliban strongly denies that an upgraded surveillance system would breach the rights of Afghans.
